Back by popular demand, our second diversity and inclusion event on Wednesday 26th September will shine a much-needed spotlight on the individuals and companies doing their part to make the workplace inclusive for everyone.
Through a series of case studies and personal stories, attendees will have the opportunity to hear the lessons our speakers have learned along the way, and come away with actionable points to implement in their own organisations.
So who are the speakers that will be joining us?
Leng Montgomery, Diversity + Inclusion Lead, Sainsbury’s
Leng Montgomery is a passionate LGBT inclusion and Trans specialist from the UK who actively engages and consults with private and public sector companies. He is a regular speaker within the LGBT field and has appeared on BBC radio, he has also written policy and delivered keynote speeches to many organisations for UK and Global audiences. He is currently a Diversity and Inclusion Executive at Sainsbury’s where he leads on LGBT for the group which includes Argos and Habitat. He also supports the wider D&I team on Disability, Carers and BAME activity.
Before joining Sainsbury’s, Leng worked at Stonewall, where he worked on the Workplace Equality Index and the Trans inclusion guides that were launched in 2016. In 2014 he was the first openly trans contestant on BBC’s Masterchef and for two years running from 2014-2015 he was listed on the Independent’s Rainbow List in the ‘Ones to Watch’ category. He’s also been shortlisted in this year’s LGBT awards under the ‘Corporate Rising Star’ category and spoke at TEDx London.
Mike Adams OBE, Chief Executive Officer, Purple
In 2013 Mike chaired the national Access to Work Expert Advisory Panel which produced more than 20 recommendations to modernise the Government’s flagship disability employment programme. Mike is also a Non-Executive Director of a UK wide private care sector company involved in the delivery of social care.
Mike’s previous track record includes being one of the senior management team at the Disability Rights Commission, Director of the National Disability Team for higher education and co-director of a disability research centre at Coventry University. He was also listed in The Disability News Service’s list of the UK’s top 100 most influential disabled people. Mike was awarded an OBE in 2012 for his services to disabled people.
Fiona Hathorn, Managing Director, Women on Boards
Fiona is Managing Director of Women on Boards in the UK, Peel Hunt Advisor and is a Trustee of the Charity Fight for Sight. She is a passionate angel investor and helped to found one of the first female angel investment clubs. Fiona is one of the judges for The Sunday Times annual NED Awards which takes places at Claridges every year.
Formerly Fiona was a director of Old Mutual Asset Management and Hill Samuel Asset Management, running the Global Equities and Emerging Markets Desks respectively. In 2012 Fiona decided to launch Women on Boards UK. Women on Boards UK’s aims are simply – to encourage and support women applying for board roles across the Public, Private and Not for Profit Sectors.
Brian Heyworth, Global Head of Strategy, HSBC
Brian Heyworth serves as Global Head of Client Strategy at HSBC Global Asset Management Limited. Brian is responsible for heading asset management’s relationships with firm’s global businesses. He joined the firm in 2006 and most recently served as Global Head of the Financial Institutions Group in global banking and spearheaded the build of a client-focused business model for the firm. Prior to this, Brian served as International Head of Global Markets Sales of Bank of America Corp.
Brian also serves as the Vice-Chair International of the City Mental Health Alliance, a collaborative venture founded by City businesses, and supported by two leading UK mental health organisations, Mental Health First Aid England and Mind. Championed by senior business leaders, the Alliance is business-led, expert-guided and aims to create a culture of good mental health for City workers, to share best practice and increase mental health understanding.
Charlotte Sweeney OBE, Author, Inclusive Leadership
Charlotte Sweeney OBE, has specialised in D&I for over 20 years. Inspired by her global corporate career in the Financial Services sector, she launched Charlotte Sweeney Associates in 2012. She also created the City of London’s Diversity Programme, The Power of Diversity on behalf of the then Lord Mayor of London Dame Fiona Woolf and was previously the Vice-Chair of the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Panel.
She is listed in the Northern Power Women Top 50 Power Women, included by The Economist as one of the Top 50 Diversity professionals in the world and is recognised as one of the Top Ten D&I Consultants by The Global Diversity List. In the 2017 New Year’s Honours, she was awarded an OBE for services to Women and Equalities.
Charlotte is also the co-author of the best-selling book Inclusive Leadership, published by Pearson/The Financial Times, which has been shortlisted for the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Management Book of the Year. She also writes regularly for professional publications including Hays, Virgin and CSR. As well as delivering keynote speeches and chairing conferences internationally, she is an expert contributor for BBC Radio, TV and the national press.
David Pearson, Head of Diversity + Inclusion, KPMG
David Pearson is Director of Global Inclusion & Diversity at KPMG, supporting inclusion for more than 200,000 people in 154 countries. His background is in KPMG’s Corporate Finance practice. David has led KPMG’s award-winning LGBT network since 2014, during which time the firm has moved up the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI) Top 100 rankings from 155, to 44, to number 10 in 2017.
David has shared best practice on inclusion and diversity with organisations such as Stonewall, Westminster Briefing, Macquarie Bank, Sainsbury’s, Marsh, Lloyds of London, GSK, Colt Technology, JP Morgan, London Business School, EY, BLP, Common Purpose (Streetwise MBA), Centre For Synchronous Leadership and the Financial Ombudsman Service. He is a past Chair of the InterEnergy LGBT network. David is co-author of KPMG’s submission to the APPG on Global LGBT Rights. He is a Patron of Freedom to Donate, a Trustee of LGBT mental health and wellbeing charity ELOP, a member of Out on the Street’s OutNEXT cohort of emerging LGBT leaders and an alumnus of the Stonewall Leadership Programme. He sits on the Economist Global Pride & Prejudice Advisory Board and the Advisory Council for Radius Business. In 2017 he was named a NatWest Top 10 Diversity Champion. He is a past regional and national winner of Boston Consulting Group’s Business Strategy Competition.
