Inspiring the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs

Inspiring the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs

What do Richard Branson, Warren Buffet, and IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad have in common? Of course, they are all incredibly successful entrepreneurs, but what you might not have known is that they all showed signs of their business acumen at exceptionally young ages.

Five-year-old Kamprad and six-year-old Buffet would travel door to door around their home towns selling gum and matches respectively, while 11-year-old Branson bred parakeets in his parents’ garden to sell as family pets.

It’s never too early to talk to younger generations about innovation and technology, which is why we invited children from Allfarthing Primary School in Wandsworth to our office for a day of interactive learning.

The day began with a quick office tour, with the children able to interrogate the Peakon team, followed by a presentation from our co-founder Dan and Data Scientist Charlie on the basics of programming and how robots “think”.

In the week before their visit, eight Peakon volunteers went to see the year 6 class and help them prepare in advance for the final activity–a “Dragon’s Den”-style pitch for a new app idea.

Five teams had five minutes each to convince Dan, Neil, and Simone—our CMO, CRO, and CFO respectively–to invest in their app. The prize? Gold medals, glory, and sweets.

The Peakon Dragon’s Den trophy was awarded to Team “Pet Decider”, whose idea for a service that can match your personality with your ideal pet wowed our judges. Look out for it on the app store soon!
